Arlington: Council to discuss water

The Arlington City Council plans to discuss changes to the city’s Water Comprehensive Plan at a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The changes reflect Arlington’s growing population and its increased need for water. City staff want to study water supplies that may help meet the needs of Arlington residents in 50 years.

The council is also scheduled to elect a council member to the mayor pro tem position. The mayor pro tem fills in for the mayor when the mayor is not available.

Other items on the agenda include water-use efficiency goals, an emergency management coordinator and improvements to 67th Avenue NE.

The council usually meets on Mondays, but it is meeting on Tuesday because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 110 E. Third St.

A new auditor for Island County is expected to be appointed during a public meeting this week.

The auditor is expected to be chosen during a special session of the Board of Island County Commissioners scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the County Annex Building, 1 NE Sixth St., Coupeville.

County commissioners are planning to interview three candidates for the position. After the interviews, commissioners may hold a closed-door meeting to talk about the candidates before returning to an open meeting for a vote.

Marysville: Talks on transportation plan

Marysville city officials plan to discuss on Tuesday the possibility of forming a transportation district with other jurisdictions.

Such a district, allowed by state law, allows cities and counties to form special taxing districts to raise money for roads and transit.

The meeting of the City Council is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave.

The council is not scheduled to vote on the idea at the meeting.

For more information call the city at 360-363-8000.

Stanwood: Council weighs date change

The dates of City Council meetings may be changed to the second and fourth Thursdays of each month to allow Mayor Dianne White to participate on the Community Transit board.

The council is scheduled to vote whether to change the dates at its meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 7. The council meets at the Stanwood-Camano School District Administration Building at 26920 Pioneer Highway.

Meetings in Stanwood are currently held on the first and third Thursdays of each month.
