Bill Quake Field celebration Saturday
The city’s Bill Quake Memorial Baseball Field reopens Saturday with special events to celebrate the start of a new baseball season on the refurbished field.
The events begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at 18501 59th Ave., Arlington.
A parade of Stilly Valley Little League teams is to be followed by recognition of longtime league volunteers Muriel Colter and Roy Strotz, who together tallied 97 years of coaching and umpiring. Also set to be honored are two of the league’s all-star teams.
Mayor Margaret Larson plans to lead baseball team members in the Little League Pledge and then throw out the ceremonial first pitch to Candi Holland, daughter of beloved local sports legend Bill Quake.
A Pitch-Hit-Run competition for ages 7 to 14 is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A dunk tank, photos and concessions also are planned along with fundraising events.

Trafton School to celebrate historical status
Students and staff at Trafton School and community members plan to celebrate the school’s new historic status Friday when the state Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation installs bronze plaques on the school building.
A ceremony is set for 1 p.m. Friday at the elementary school, 12616 Jim Creek Road, east of Arlington.
The school, which opened in 1888 and was rebuilt in 1912 after a fire, is now listed on the state Heritage Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Trafton School is considered to be the oldest continuously operating small school in the state.

Genealogical Society and library holds garage sale
The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society and Library is raising money to keep its library open and free to the public.
The society plans to hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 28230 Highway 9 NE, north of Arlington near the Bryant Store.

Granite Falls
Little League plans fundraiser breakfast
The Granite Falls Little League is planning a fundraiser pancake breakfast for Saturday.
The event is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post No. 125, 301 S. Granite Ave.
The pancakes are all-you-can eat, and scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and coffee are also available.
The cost is $5 for adults and $4 for kids 14 and under. Anyone who brings canned or otherwise nonperishable food for the food bank receives $1 off.
Marysville
Safety training session for women scheduled
A training session in personal safety for women and teens is planned for Saturday.
The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon at the barn at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road.
The training is provided by f.e.m.m.e. SAFETYinc, a Seattle-based organization that provides personal safety training for women and teens.
The event addresses safety issues facing women of all ages, with a special emphasis on girls in high school and women in college.
The cost is $49 per individual or $49 for mothers and daughters who register together.

Quilters meet to sew for wounded soldiers
Help make quilts for wounded soldiers at this month’s meeting of the Stanwood-Camano Hero Quilters.
The quilters meeting is scheduled from 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Aunt Mary’s Quilt Shop at 3325 169th Place NE, Suite D, in Smokey Point.
The quilts are distributed to soldiers through American Hero Quilts. A Washington woman started American Hero Quilts in reaction to an Iraq War veteran who killed himself after returning home.

Tulalip Hotel room reservations available
Tax day for some means stress and a last-minute rush to the post office, but at the Tulalip Hotel, April 15 brought a way to spend a refund.
Phone lines opened Tuesday to take reservations for the luxury hotel, which is set for a soft opening in late June. A grand opening is scheduled for August.
Guests can book a standard room for between $100 and $200 a night, or a luxury suite for up to $3,000. Several weekends through the end of the year are already booked solid.

Tribe plans wetlands tours for Earth Day
The Tulalip Tribes Natural Resources Department plans tours of the Qwuloolt wetlands estuary project on Earth Day. The event includes tours of the Marysville Water Treatment Plant and information on the tribes’ efforts to improve water quality, strengthen salmon runs and renovate streams to their historic channels.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Ebey Waterfront Park at 1404 First St. in Marysville.
