Arlington: Model train wins award

The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum won a Malstrom Award for exhibit projects from the League of Snohomish County Historical Organizations for its model train display. The display features detailed models of communities including Cicero, Oso, Darrington, Hazel and Arlington in the 1920s.

Trains loaded with logs from Darrington chug through the various communities en route to Everett. Miniature stores, homes, people, cattle and bears dot the forested landscape along the way.

The display was designed by Dave Rygmyer and built by Annette DeVoe, Andy Korthius and the late Bob Jensen.

A video that accompanies the display teaches about the development of the area through logging and transportation.

The Stillaguamish Valley Pioneer Museum is at 20722 67th Ave. NE.
