Arlington: Pet-food drive Saturday

The nonprofit Humane Society at Happy Paws Farm is running a pet-food drive in Arlington, Marysville and Stanwood to benefit its low-income pet food bank.

Donations can be made from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at these Haggen food stores: 20115 78th Ave. NE in Arlington, 3711 88th St. NE in Marysville and 26603 72nd Ave. NW in Stanwood.

@Headline briefly item 16 light:Stilly Senior Center plans chicken dinner

Stillaguamish Senior Center offers its Old-Fashioned Chicken Dinner fundraiser from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. The Country Grass Band is scheduled to perform.

Cost is $8 or $7 for seniors and $5 for those younger than 12.

Camano Island: Tour old schoolhouse

Learn more about an effort to buy and restore the old Camano City schoolhouse for use as a community center by attending a tour and open house from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the schoolhouse. Refreshments served.

The schoolhouse is next to the Orchid Road fire station on the island’s west side.

Darrington: New date for fundraiser

Darrington Preschool Co-op has rescheduled its upcoming fundraiser. Originally set for Saturday, the event now is 6 p.m. March 14 in the dining room at the Darrington Community Center at the school.

The event features bunco and poker tournaments.

The preschool also has enrollment openings for 3-year-olds.

Stanwood: Open house for new school

A new private school called Summit Academy is scheduled to open in Stanwood next fall. An open house is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stanwood Community and Senior Center, 7430 276th St.

The school plans to open with kindergarten, first- and second-grade students. Plans call for Summit Academy to grow with the students into a full kindergarten through eighth-grade program.

Summit Prep, an independent high school, is scheduled to be developed by the time students reach high school.
