Edmonds: Council confirms new chief

Al Compaan is the new police chief of the Edmonds Police Department.

Compaan’s appointment to the city’s top police position was confirmed this week by the Edmonds City Council. Mayor Gary Haakenson announced his appointment of Compaan two weeks ago.

Compaan was thrust into the role of acting chief in April after former Police Chief David Stern died from a brain aneurysm.

During his 29 years with the Edmonds Police Department, Compaan has worked for the city as a patrol officer, detective, corporal and sergeant.

Lynnwood: City gets new police officer

A former U.S. Marine is the newest member of the city of Lynnwood’s police force.

Zac Olesen, who graduated from the Basic Law Enforcement Academy in Burien last month, started as an officer this week with the Lynnwood Police Department.

“When I was in the Marines, my job meant more than a paycheck, and it will be the same as a police officer,” Olesen said. “I like that feeling.”

Olesen is married with his first child on the way. His father is retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and is currently a deputy with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
