Mill Creek: Council orders traffic survey
A traffic survey covering several intersections in Mill Creek is planned before the City Council moves forward with a proposal to use cameras to photograph vehicles that run red lights.
The council decided at its most recent meeting to conduct a survey. The survey work is scheduled to begin in November, after construction is finished near the intersection of Bothell-Everett Highway and 164th Street SE, one of the city’s busiest intersections.
Cameras won’t be installed unless the survey shows a need to do so, Mayor Donna Michelson said.
If the cameras are installed, tickets would be mailed to the registered owners of vehicles that are photographed. Police hope the cameras would help curb the number of accidents.
In 2006, nearly half of the city’s 293 accidents happened at four intersections: 35th Avenue SE at Highway 96, 132nd Street SE at Highway 527, 164th Street SE at Highway 527 and 164th Street SE at Mill Creek Boulevard.
