Edmonds: Open house for road work

An open house to discuss how to make some streets in Edmonds safer for pedestrians is planned for next week.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday in the Brackett Room of Edmonds City Hall at 121 Fifth Ave. N.

Sidewalks and crossing improvements are proposed for Caspers Street, Ninth Avenue and Puget Drive between Third Avenue N. and Olympic Avenue.

The Mill Creek City Council is scheduled to vote on Nov. 13 whether to expand the city’s eastern boundaries to include more than 175 homes in the Webster’s Pond and Stonehedge neighborhoods.

Council members have been skeptical about annexing new areas. At a March retreat, council members said they weren’t interested in annexations this year.

At this week’s City Council meeting, council members requested more information from staff about how the annexations would affect the city’s long-term financial future.
