Edmonds: Prenatal yoga classes offered

Women can participate in prenatal yoga classes offered each month by Edmonds Parks and Recreation.

The next class is scheduled from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 17 at the parks and recreation building at 700 Main St. The cost is $36, and participants must bring their own mats.

Yoga can help pregnant women prepare for labor by strengthening their bodies’ core muscles and teaching them to maintain calm states of mind.

Lynnwood: Police set Citizens Academy

People who want to learn the ins and outs of the Lynnwood Police Department can sign up for the department’s 18th annual Citizens Academy.

Citizens Academy is scheduled to go from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursdays starting Jan. 10 and ending April 24. Classes are at the Civic Justice Center at 19321 44th Ave. W.

The free 16-week academy is planned to cover all phases of law enforcement. Planned activities include investigating mock crime scenes, learning about weapons carried by officers, seeing an emergency dispatch center and learning personal safety tips.

Monroe: Learn disaster response

The city plans to offer Community Emergency Response Team classes on Thursdays beginning Jan. 10 at the Monroe Fire Station, 163 Village Court. These classes consist of seven 21/2-hour evening sessions and one four-hour exercise on Feb. 23.

The classes teach people how to respond to the aftermath of a disaster and to help victims. The cost of the course is $40, which includes basic safety equipment.

Additional classes may also be scheduled for neighborhood groups, civic groups or businesses.

Mill Creek: Help plan city events

Teens can help plan events and projects in the city of Mill Creek by taking part in Youth Advisory Board 2008.

The group meets twice each month at Mill Creek City Hall at 15728 Main St.

Mountlake Terrace: Library offers family storytime in Russian

Families who speak Russian can listen to stories and watch puppet shows at an event being planned for the Mountlake Terrace Library.

The event, Russian Family Storytime, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the library at 23300 58th Ave. W. People interested in the Russian language are also welcome to attend.

The event is scheduled to repeat at 11 a.m. Jan. 19.
