Arlington

Economic plan on council agenda

The City Council will meet at 7 tonight at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE.

On the agenda is a presentation by Tom Beckwith, the city’s new consultant who was hired to write an economic development plan. Beckwith will talk about his proposed course of action.

Also on the agenda is an update of the project status for the new police station and city hall annex that is under construction next to City Hall.

Darrington

Library board to discuss taxes

The Darrington Rural Partial County Library District Board will meet at 4 today at the library, 1005 Cascade St.

The meeting will include a public hearing to consider the 2005 budget and the possible adoption of a resolution authorizing an increase in property tax revenues.

Edmonds

Public hearing on budget tonight

The Edmonds City Council will have a public hearing tonight on the city’s proposed 2005 budget.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Public Safety Complex, 250 Main St. The council will meet tonight rather than Tuesday because of the election.

The budget, property taxes and other revenues will be up for discussion.

Everett

Firefighters can check car seats

Two firefighters with Snohomish County Fire District 1 have been certified to help parents install car seats.

Janette Anderson and Candy Hanson completed 32 hours of training sponsored by Snohomish County SAFE Kids.

They will be able to educate parents about the proper installation of child car seats. More than 80 percent of car seats are improperly installed.

Fire District 1 has nine employees certified to install car seats. The department offers checks by appointment on the third Tuesday of each month. To schedule an inspection, call Kate Bogh at 425-551-1250.

City, county want public’s help

Snohomish County, Everett and their respective housing authorities are having an information-gathering public hearing at 4 p.m. today in the Weyerhaeuser Room at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave.

The goal of the hearing is to gather information about the Snohomish County Consortium’s 2005-09 consolidated plan. The plan establishes spending priorities for federal money targeted at helping the county’s low and moderate-income residents through housing, social service and community development.

Other public hearings on the matter will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE; 3:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Monroe PUD, 120 E. Fremont St.; and 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Lynnwood City Hall council chambers, 19100 44th Ave. W.

Island County

Aquifers, wells topic at meeting

Camano Water Systems Association has scheduled an open house featuring Island County’s Water Resources Advisory Committee, a volunteer group.

The open house will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Odd Fellows Park, 96 S. Camano Ridge Road on Camano Island.

Sheilagh Byler of Island County will give an overview of both groups and an update about their progress.

Doug Kelly, the county’s hydrogeologist, will talk about the county’s aquifers and seawater intrusion in wells.

Lynnwood

City Council to discuss budget

A review of the proposed 2005-06 budget, a review of a proposed sensitive areas ordinance and possible approval of a proposed economic development action plan are on the agenda for a City Council work session tonight.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at City Hall, 19100 44th Ave. W.

The council will meet tonight rather than Tuesday because of the election.

Diabetes group meets Nov. 8

The Valley General Hospital, located at 14701 179th Ave. SE, offers a diabetes education group 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at Cafe Corner. The guest speaker is Tonya Daoura, who will speak on “National Diabetes Awareness Month.” This event is free.

Mukilteo

Meeting provides meth information

Methamphetamine awareness is the subject of a presentation scheduled for 7-8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the multipurpose room of the Mukilteo YMCA, 10601 47th Place W.

Ross Wigney, a state certified drug lab cleanup contractor, will discuss the nature of the drug, who uses it, the labs, safety and the law.

There is no cost and no prior registration required. The event is sponsored by Snohomish County Human Services.

Snohomish

Seniors invited on two tours

The Snohomish Senior Center has two trips scheduled for November: a Boehm’s Candy Factory trip on Nov. 11 and an Alkai Tours Mystery Trip on Nov. 16.

The Boehm’s trip includes a visit to a chalet style candy factory in Issaquah. Cost of the trip for the center’s members is $16 with lunch on their own. Nonmembers are welcome to join the group at $18 for transportation.

The Alkai Trip costs $65 for members and $67 for nonmembers.
