EVERETT — You can work out and eat pancakes for a good cause at Paine Field next month.
The Paine Field Fire Department is hosting its annual pancake breakfast and 5k run on May 21. Proceeds from the breakfast go to the Northwest Burn Foundation. Proceeds from the 5k go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
The event is held the same day as General Aviation Day at Paine Field, so runners stuffed on pancakes can hang around for the show, firefighter Tony Mace said.
Those who register for the run by May 1 get $5 off the registration fee, Mace said. The price varies from $15 to $25, depending on participants’ ages and when they register. That includes the breakfast and a T-shirt.
This is the third year the firefighters have added a run to their traditional pancake breakfast, Mace said. Participation doubled during the first two years, and they’re hoping for similar growth this year.
The race is unique because it takes place at an airport, he said. It’s good for beginners because it’s relatively flat ground.
He coordinates the race and also takes part.
“And then I put on my pancake breakfast hat and help the guys make pancakes,” he said.
