Sarah Palin endorsed Republican John Koster for Congress today, announcing her support this afternoon on her Twitter site.
“Proud to endorse John Koster, Congress-WA-2. John’s pro-family, pro-business, rock-solid commonsense conservative!” she wrote.
Koster knew she had been considering the endorsement for several days.
“I like the things that Sarah stands for,” said Koster, a Snohomish County Councilman who is challenging U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen, D-WA.
Filing for the 2nd Congressional District and other local, station and national races for the Aug. 17 primary ended Friday. The other candidates for the seat are: John Carmack, Bellingham, Republican Party; Larry Kalb, Bellingham, Democratic Party; and Diana McGinness, Bellingham, Democratic Party.
Koster welcomed Palin’s backing and said he hopes it spurs people to “to learn more about who I am and what I stand for.”
Palin’s endorsement should boost Koster’s profile outside the 2nd Congressional District and could bring him an infusion of campaign donations.
He said he did not know if Palin would visit the county for a campaign fund raiser.
