SNOHOMISH — A Lynden man died Thursday in a parachuting accident in Snohomish.
The man was identified as Cal B. McKibbon, 51. His family has been notified of his death, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The man was parachuting in the area, but something went wrong with his chute, and his reserve chute was tangled, said Craig Heike, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 4 in Snohomish.
The man fell into the Pilchuck River bed near the city limits off 92nd Street SE about 2:45 p.m. He was taken by helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Heike said.
The man later died at the hospital.
Bystanders who saw what happened rushed over and helped fire crews provide aid, Heike said. Monroe fire crews also responded, while Snohomish police officers directed traffic. The area was more congested than normal because of a nearby sports tournament.
