LYNNWOOD – About 100 people were evacuated from the Snohomish County District Court in Lynnwood on Monday after employees received what they believed to be a suspicious package.
The large shoebox-sized package addressed to Judge Tim Ryan reportedly set off a metal detector at the courthouse, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The package also caught the eye of court officials because of who sent it, Sessions said. The same man has sent Ryan letters for about a year. None have been threatening, but talked about the man’s proceedings at the court, she said.
The building was evacuated about 1 p.m. A nearby golf course and trail also were cleared.
The county’s bomb squad came to the courthouse and a remotely operated robot removed and imploded the package in the parking lot. It was filled with numerous documents and metal, Sessions said. “There was nothing suspicious about it.”
The courthouse was reopened just before 3 p.m.
