LYNNWOOD – Police are searching for a man who they said attempted to lure a fourth-grader into his car Wednesday while she was walking to College Place Elementary School in Lynnwood.
The girl told police that the man pulled up alongside of her about 8 a.m. in the 7300 block of 208th Street SW and asked her to get into his car. The girl said the man tried to entice her with candy, Cmdr. Paul Watkins said.
The girl refused to get in the car and continued walking to school, where she told officials what had happened. School personnel called police and sent a letter to parents Wednesday advising them of the incident.
“The student did the right thing,” said Edmonds School District spokeswoman Debbie Jakala. “It’s a good time for parents to talk about safety issues with their students.”
No other child-luring attempts have been reported in the area, Watkins said.
The suspect was described as a medium- or light-skinned African-American man, wearing a gray T-shirt and baseball cap. He was driving an older-style, four-door purple sedan.
Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call the Lynnwood Police Department at 425-744-6900.
