PASCO — The mayor of Pasco is saying goodbye to follow her heart.
The Tri-City Herald reports an emotional Mayor Joyce Olson told the city council Monday night she’ll resign at the end of the month and move to Norfolk, Va., to join her fiance.
Olson said she reconnected with a high school classmate from Connecticut last year when they helped plan their 40th reunion. She became engaged to William Mathews around Valentine’s Day. She plans to move next month to Norfolk and get married.
Olson was first elected to the city council in 1988 and later served as district director for Rep. Doc Hastings. She was elected again to the council in 2006 and re-elected in November.
