OLYMPIA — The Washington State Patrol says there were two fatal crashes over the Memorial Day weekend, compared with five a year ago.
The patrol says troopers made 138 drunken driving arrests, compared with 348 last year on state highways. Troopers issued 2,798 speeding tickets, compared with 5,663. And they issued 851 seat belt citations, compared with 912.
Trooper Keith Leary says numbers were down because the cool, wet weather forced drivers to be safer or stay home.
