MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Southbound traffic on I-5 was backed up for miles Saturday afternoon as local law enforcement tried to reach a man walking and dancing on the freeway.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said the man began walking on I-5 South just after 11 a.m., beginning near 212th Street in Mountlake Terrace. He was detained around 1:15 p.m., shortly after crossing the King County line.
Oliphant said a trooper convinced the man to willingly get into the back of a patrol car, without force. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center, Oliphant said.
Oliphant said the man was acting “erratically,” dancing and jumping around, and was not responding to requests from law enforcement, for hours.
Washington State Patrol, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Lynnwood Police Department all responded to the incident.
A mental health professional was requested to aid in the response, Oliphant said.
