LYNNWOOD — The Lynnwood Permit Center is expanding its hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays beginning Sept. 30.
The center had to cut hours during the economic downturn.
Additional hours, spurred by development and a healthier budget, are welcome news, said Paul Krauss, the city’s community development director.
“We didn’t like having to be closed,” he said. “That was frustrating for all concerned, the customers and even city staff, whose job is serving the public.”
The center at 4114 198th St. SW, Suite 7, houses multiple city departments.
The center handles more than $1 million in permits a year, Krauss said. That leads to tens of millions of dollars of construction in the city.
Permits issued might be for something like a homeowners’ new deck or a new senior living complex. New permits are good for Lynnwood’s economic development, Krauss said.
“We are here, and we can work with people on new development,” he said. “The entire city benefits from new investment, new services, new jobs. We’re just really pleased that we’re going back to being able to offer those services five days a week.”
