Dr. Tony Roon has been named this year’s recipient of the Providence General Foundation’s Spirit of Caring Award.
The annual award recognizes an individual, team or organization that has collaborated with Providence Everett Medical Center to help achieve its mission, with special emphasis on service to the poor or underserved.
In March 2003, Roon helped coordinate a health care summit with former County Executive Bob Drewel on the lack of access to health care by the poor, uninsured and seniors. Roon proposed the concept of a community clinic.
The Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic opened in January 2004.
