TACOMA — The Pierce County Council voted unanimously to override a veto by county executive Pat McCarthy.
The action Tuesday reinforces the council’s decision to eliminate one superior court judge position.
McCarthy told The News Tribune of Tacoma the council lacks authority for the move. Council members say it’s a budget matter.
The seat was left vacant after the resignation of Judge Michael Hecht, following his conviction for patronizing a prostitute.
