The pink flamingo is back.
Union Products, the original maker of the kitschy lawn ornament, went out of business this winter. Another company bought the copyright and plastic mold for the original version and plans to begin production at the end of the summer. Other companies have tried to sell knockoffs of the bird but none rival the original design.
“Pink flamingo” may be a dirty word for more urbane gardeners, but I think they add whimsy to the garden. Dad stuck a few in my yard last year and I let ‘em stay.
