EVERETT – Everett police destroyed a pipe bomb that was discovered Monday morning in a downtown parking garage.
Bomb experts used a remote-controlled robot to move the bomb to a safe place inside the Puget Parking Garage, where it was destroyed, Everett police Lt. Bob Johns said.
The incident is under investigation.
The detonation occurred just before 11 a.m. The blast was loud enough to startle the groups of people who had been evacuated from nearby office buildings.
Portions of several streets in downtown Everett were closed after the device was discovered just before 9 a.m. on the second floor of the garage, 1712 California St., at the southwest corner of Wetmore Avenue and California Street.
The bomb was found by a driver who was searching for a parking spot on the second floor of the garage, Johns said.
No one was injured in the incident, Johns said. There was no damage to the parking garage or the cars in the garage.
