LAKE STEVENS — Snohomish County has three dozen acres on Cavalero Hill, and it’s time to figure out what the public wants to do with all that land.
Sports fields? A water spray park? Trails and playgrounds?
All of the above?
Everything’s up for consideration and there’s plenty of park land to work with, said county parks director Tom Teigen.
“Now it’s time to really start talking about park improvements,” Teigen said.
A meeting Tuesday night launches the planning effort that will lead to construction in coming years.
“We want to hear from all kinds of people,” Teigen said. That includes the school nearby, the neighbors and local sports groups.
The property is a big square — a blank slate, Teigen calls it — between U.S. 2 and Highway 9 in an area booming with housing and traffic. The county purchased final chunks of the land in recent years and demolished the homes on the properties.
Some county road improvements have been completed nearby, and a traffic light — paid for by a housing developer — has been installed, Teigen said.
The county owns 100 parks, 10,000 acres of parkland and 34 miles of trails.
