PARKLAND — A juvenile detention officer has been arrested in connection with the sexual assaults of at least eight women in the Parkland area, police said Thursday.
Deputies arrested the 35-year-old man Wednesday night. He was located with help from the Pacific Lutheran University security staff, said Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.
A description of the suspect came together after a string of incidents near the university campus.
“Campus security recognized the suspect from a Crime Stoppers flier,” Troyer said. “He fled when he was contacted, and the security officers contacted 911.”
The suspect was booked into Pierce County Jail on one charge of rape, two charges of indecent liberties and seven counts of assault with sexual motivation.
Troyer said the suspect will likely make a court appearance Monday, following the holiday weekend. He works as a detention officer at Remann Hall, the juvenile detention facility in Pierce County, authorities said.
Police said in most of the incidents between Oct. 30 and Nov. 20, victims were walking alone when they were approached from behind and assaulted.
