BEND, Ore. — A 34-year-old man is accused of breaking into a house with an ax. His accuser: himself.
Oregon State Police said David Erick Day of Bend apparently had a change of heart when he broke into the home on Saturday. Rather than take anything, Day called 911 to alert authorities that he was there.
Trooper Jason Hansen found a drunk Day waiting for him in the driveway.
Day was being held in the Deschutes County Jail on burglary and criminal mischief charges. Bail was set at $22,500.
Hansen said Day was lucky that the homeowners were away. "The sight of a man with an ax breaking through the door could easily lead to the use of deadly force."
