EVERETT — A shooting was reported south of Everett late Wednesday, but police have not located the potential victim.
Witnesses heard gunfire just before 9 p.m. outside the Walgreens at Fourth Avenue W. and 112th Street SW.
The witnesses reported seeing two men in a silver Audi and then hearing at least two shots, said Shari Ireton, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver got out, pulled the passenger from the car and began beating him, Ireton said. The driver then took off in the car and witnesses saw the injured man running away, leaving a blood trail.
Police found the car, which was stolen, and arrested the driver, 35, of Lynnwood. That happened about 16 blocks from the shooting scene. The man is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as possession of a stolen car. He also had warrants for his arrest. He declined to tell detectives what happened.
The man reportedly said that he took off because he knew police “would suspect him of doing something,” according to the arrest report.
Blood was found inside and outside the car, Ireton said. There also was a bullet hole in the car, and detectives found a bloody pistol and shell casings. The arrested man had blood on his clothes as well.
The injured man was described as young, possibly a teen, white and carrying a backpack. Detectives checked area hospitals without success.
A deputy told the suspect “I was concerned someone was shot and in need of medical attention,” the arrest report states.
“He told me hoped to God no one was shot and he did not know anything,” the deputy wrote.
