SALEM, Ore. — Salem police say a man they tried to arrest at a house Tuesday was wearing nothing but underwear.
The man fled out the back door.
As they followed the suspect through yards and bushes in hilly West Salem, officers caught glimpses and realized he was now wearing nothing at all.
When officers finally caught up with him, in a house being remodeled, he had pants on.
Lt. Dave Okada told the Salem Statesman Journal (http://stjr.nl/10z2Gtr) officers believe the suspect lost the underwear scrambling over a fence and then somewhere grabbed the pants.
Police said 49-year-old James E. Bufford was wanted on a warrant alleging failure to register as a sex offender after a rape conviction.
He now also faces burglary, theft, escape and other charges.
