Everett police destroyed a suspicious bomb-like device that was discovered this morning in a downtown parking garage.
The controlled detonation just before 11 a.m. was loud enough that it startled bystanders. Nobody was injured and no significant property damage was reported, Everett police Lt. Bob Johns said.
Portions of several streets in downtown Everett were closed and some buildings evacuated after the device was discovered in the parking garage on the corner of Wetmore Avenue and California Street.
The six-inch contraption had a fuse sticking out of one end. It found by a driver who was searching for a parking spot on the second floor of the garage, Johns said.
The Everett Police Departments bomb squad arrived at the scene shortly after 9 a.m. They sent a remote-controlled robot into the garage to investigate and neutralize the device, Johns said
