EVERETT — The man appeared to show no remorse Thursday night when he allegedly stabbed another man and left him bleeding on the ground in south Everett, a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy wrote in an arrest report.
The suspect, 35, reportedly said he was just defending himself and smiled when the deputy took his photo at the Snohomish County Jail.
Earlier in the night, the alleged assailant was outside his apartment in the 11100 block of Seventh Place West, shooting fireworks aimed at the other man, who was a stranger and apparently homeless, court papers say.
The two fought, and others joined the fray. A neighbor of the suspect said he stepped outside to smoke when he saw the scuffle and went to help. He told a deputy that he was hit with a large stick. Then someone yelled about being stabbed.
The suspect walked away without trying to help, court papers say. He was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault, a Class A felony.
He’d been drinking, which raised enough of a medical concern that he was taken to the hospital before jail. During booking, the deputy noted fresh red marks on the suspect’s knuckles.
He “at no point showed any remorse for stabbing the victim,” the deputy wrote.
Mukilteo police arrested the man in June, for disorderly conduct including abusive language, according to jail records.
The wounded man was transported to a hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries.
