LAKE STEVENS — A Lake Stevens Middle School student was disciplined for posting a photo on social media Monday that included a toy gun, school officials say.
Police were helping the Lake Stevens School District investigate the social media post as a possible threat Tuesday.
“The Lake Stevens Police Department (LSPD) immediately went to the home of the student and conducted a thorough search,” Principal Lisa Sanchez said in an email to students, staff and families. “The gun is a toy.”
Sanchez said the student was not in school Tuesday, and that there was no credible threat to the school.
School administrators and the school resource officer spoke with students and looked into “each piece of information” they received, Sanchez wrote.
In light of the post, Lake Stevens School District Superintendent Ken Collins said emergencies should always be reported to 911.
Non-emergency information can be shared with school administrators, district administrators, or reported through the anonymous Safe Schools Tip Line, 855-200-5058.
