EVERETT — Police are investigating a south Everett shooting early Monday that left a man dead in a driveway.
No arrests have been made but police said the killing was not random.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, more targeted,” Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
Around 5:40 a.m., police were called to the 2400 block of 75th Street SE after gunfire rang out in the neighborhood, Goetz said.
The man died at the scene. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His identity was not released Monday.
The Snohomish County medical examiner was expected to conduct an autopsy.
Detectives were still trying to determine a motive Monday, Goetz said. They were interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
Police were looking for someone in a Toyota truck that was seen leaving the area. It wasn’t clear to detectives if the truck was associated with the shooting, Goetz said.
Police said they’ve been called in the past to deal with issues at the home where the man was killed.
There have been disturbances and officers have recovered stolen vehicles there, Goetz said.
The family who lives in the house was cooperating with detectives Monday. A search warrant was obtained to allow detectives to go inside and look for clues, which is routine during a homicide investigation, Goetz said.
Neighbors said the home has been a problem for some time. About a year ago, they formed a block watch, said Matt Rutherford, who’s lived on the street for about eight years.
A friend across the street woke him up Monday morning to tell him that police were investigating a shooting death a few doors up the street.
Given the suspicious activity near the home, the killing wasn’t a shock, he said.
“This is not that big a surprise,” Rutherford said. “It’s unfortunate. We have kids. You hope this stuff doesn’t bleed in and affect you in our lives.”
The death was the city’s first fatal shooting of 2008, and the sixth homicide investigation in the county this year.
