FEDERAL WAY — Federal Way police said one of its officers shot a man who refused orders to drop a knife.
The police department said in a statement that an officer responded to a report of an assault at about 6:30 a.m. Monday. The officer spotted a man who matched the suspect’s description.
Police said the man was holding a knife and refused orders to drop the weapon.
The officer shot the man, who ran from the scene and was taken into custody by other officers.
Police said the man was conscious when he was taken to Harborview Medical Center. He has not been identified.
No other details about the shooting were immediately released.
A multi-agency team will investigate. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to department policy.
