STANWOOD — Police have interviewed two people in connection with an attempted ammonia theft earlier this month.
The two were questioned after it was discovered they had injuries consistent with ammonia burns.
"It’s plausible they are from something else, too," Police Chief Tom Davis said.
North Star Cold Storage and nearby businesses were evacuated April 13 after witnesses noticed a small cloud of gas coming from the seafood processing plant.
Firefighters determined someone had tampered with a valve on a 6,000-gallon tank. About 1,500 pounds of ammonia leaked out. The leak cost the plant about $2,000.
Davis said detectives don’t have any suspects, but are pursing leads.
Anhydrous ammonia, a commercial refrigerant, is a common ingredient used to make methamphetamine.
Snohomish: Freshman Campus vandalized
Police are looking for vandals who broke into the Snohomish Freshman Campus on Friday.
Officers were called to the school about 2:30 a.m. and saw a box fly out a window, followed by a pair of feet, Sgt. Rick Johnson said. "They gave chase but didn’t catch anyone," he said.
Inside police found the vandals tried to light books and papers on fire inside two classrooms and in the hall. There was no major fire damage, Johnson said.
Police do not believe there is any connection to the vandalism and recent arsons in east Snohomish County.
