PORTLAND, Ore.— Police in Portland say a 49-year-old driver who struck and injured a traffic flagger apparently had been inhaling nitrous oxide.
Officers said the 47-year-old female flagger suffered serious injuries Wednesday but was expected to survive.
KPTV reports that investigators say the woman was wearing an orange vest, a hard hat and holding a “SLOW” sign as part of her job.
Witnesses told police the driver had been weaving in and out of traffic as he approached the Portland Water Bureau construction project.
Police say they found evidence indicating the man was inhaling or “huffing” nitrous oxide. He was arrested.
