BEAVERTON, Ore. — Police are looking for a 38-year-old girls’ softball coach, and say he may have run away with a 15-year-old team member.
They say Michelle Elizabeth Smith, who also goes by the name Mimi, has been missing since Sept. 28 and was last seen at school Sept. 26.
A friend told officers she wrote a note hinting that she might run away. Friends and family told police they had reason to suspect that Smith left with coach Andrew James Garver.
Investigators said Garver had been absent from work for several days, liquidated some assets and told his daughter he might move to California.
Garver recently withdrew money from a joint account that he shared with his estranged wife, according to police.
Neither Garver nor Smith appeared for their weekend softball game.
