They don’t know who the two men are, but Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives want to talk with them about recent attempts to get children into vehicles.
One of the men is suspected of trying to lure three children into his pickup truck during two incidents, one Oct. 9 near Lake Stevens, the other Oct. 11 near Stanwood.
The other man frightened a 10-year-old girl Wednesday, demanding she climb into his car while she was working as a crossing guard near Monroe Elementary School at Silver Lake.
All of the children who were approached refused to go with the men, sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
The sheriff’s office on Friday released a sketch of the man suspected in the earlier incidents. A 5-year-old boy told detectives that a man in a gold-colored truck tried to get him into the vehicle Oct. 11 in the 1200 block of 85th Drive NE, near Lake Stevens. The driver displayed a badge.
The sheriff’s office has since learned about an Oct. 9 incident involving two girls, ages 8 and 5, who said a man approached them in the 2700 block of 102nd Avenue NW near Stanwood.
The man asked the girls to get into his gold-colored Toyota pickup. He claimed to be a police officer, Jorgensen said. The girls ran away.
The man is described as white, in his late 40s to early 50s, with a medium build, brown eyes, white hair and a white moustache.
The man sought in Wednesday’s incident was described as white, bald and in his 50s. The girl said he was smoking a cigarette and had a gruff voice when he demanded the young crossing guard to "get in the car," Jorgensen said. He was driving a 1970s Chevrolet van.
