EDMONDS — Three Democratic state lawmakers will be co-hosting town hall meetings today in which they can expect questions on the suspension of Initiative 960 and proposals to raise taxes to deal with the state’s budget deficit.
At 10 a.m., Reps. Marko Liias, D-Edmonds, and Mary Helen Roberts, D-Lynnwood, along with state Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, will be in the school theater at Edmonds Woodway High School, 7600 212th St. SW in Edmonds. Then, at 1:30 p.m. the trio will be at Mukilteo City Hall, 11930 Cyrus Way.
Also Saturday, state Reps. Ruth Kagi, D-Lake Forest Park, and Maralyn Chase, D-Edmonds, will jointly host two public meetings.
The first is set for 10 a.m. in the Third Place Commons on the upper level of Lake Forest Park Town Center, 17171 Bothell Way NE.
Then at 1 p.m., they will be at the Shoreline Historical Museum, 749 N 175th in Shoreline.
All five Democratic lawmakers voted this session to suspend the 2007 initiative which requires a two-thirds vote in the Legislature to raise taxes. As a result, Democrats, who hold a sizable numeric advantage in the House and Senate, can override Republican opposition and increase taxes with a simple-majority vote.
