STANWOOD — An old tennis shoe signed by Sen. Patty Murray is among the auction items to be offered at a fundraising event by the Stanwood Democrats.
The Democratic club plans to host the auction and serve a free salmon barbecue lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Church Creek Park, 27099 72nd Ave. N.W. in Stanwood.
Larry Laverne, who plays Celtic music, plans to provide the entertainment. The auction items also include lunch in Olympia with state Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen.
The Upper Skagit Tribe will provide the salmon. The lunch menu also includes coleslaw, baked beans, garlic bread and strawberry shortcake.
Donations for the meal and proceeds from the auction and a raffle go to the club’s scholarship fund and Democratic candidates.
The Delores Hagland Jones Scholarship provides schooling or training at a college or a technical school for a single parent who lives in the Stanwood-Camano area or who attended Stanwood-Camano schools. The goal is to help the individual become self-supporting within two years.
