Marko Liias to run for Sullivan’s legislative seat
Mukilteo City Councilman Marko Liias announced Saturday that he intends to seek appointment to State Rep. Brian Sullivan’s seat in the Legislature.
Sullivan, a former Mukilteo mayor, beat out William Cooper in the race for the Snohomish County Council’s District 2 position. The seat is currently held by Kirke Sievers, who is ending 12 years on the council. Term limits bar him from seeking re-election.
In a released statement, Liias said he wants to retain a strong voice for Mukilteo in Olympia.
“The bottom line for me is how I can best serve the people that have placed their trust in me, and make sure that the voices of everyday citizens are heard in the political process,” Liias said.
Liias was elected to the Mukilteo City Council in 2005.
