Snohomish County Councilman Kirke Sievers on Tuesday officially launched his campaign for county treasurer, an office he previously held for 21 years.
Sievers, 64, was forced out of the treasurer’s office in 1995 because of term limits. Sievers has since served three terms on the County Council but cannot seek re-election to that office.
The Sievers family dynasty in county politics stretches a nearly unbroken 72 years.
Verne Sievers, Kirke’s father, was elected auditor in 1935, and later served as treasurer until 1974. He missed two years while serving in the Navy in World War II. Kirke Sievers was treasurer from 1975 to 1995, and county councilman from 1995 until the end of this year.
The treasurer’s job opens at the end of this year. Treasurer Bob Dantini has served three terms and cannot seek re-election, so he’s running for county clerk.
