MARYSVILLE – Elected officials and business leaders endorsed the Marysville School District’s levy and bond proposals on Friday.
Marysville Mayor Dennis Kendall, Tulalip Tribes Chairman Stan Jones Sr. and the Marysville-Tulalip Chamber of Commerce said the measures are vital to the community.
At a news conference, Kendall said the bond and levy are important in economic development efforts to recruit new companies, which invariably ask about local support for schools.
“We are totally behind it,” Jones added. “We will do everything we can do.”
“We want growth with quality of life,” said Steve Muller, president of the chamber.
The district is seeking a four-year replacement maintenance and operation levy, and a 20-year, $118 million bond measure to build a new high school, new elementary school and make other improvements.
The levy is opposed by a small group led by former school board member Ron Young, who argues that too much levy money is spent on teacher salaries instead of on students in the classroom.
