Somers says he’ll run for re-election
SNOHOMISH — Snohomish County Councilman Dave Somers said he planned to announce his re-election campaign during a reception Wednesday night.
Somers, a Democrat, represents the 5th District, which includes Monroe, Snohomish, Gold Bar, Lake Stevens and Index. The kick-off reception was scheduled at the Angel Arms Works on 230 Ave. B in Snohomish.
Somers won his council seat four years ago on a pledge to improve safety on U.S. 2, protect Main Street businesses and maintain the quality of life for residential and rural communities. Recent issues he has worked on include streamlining the county’s permitting process to make permits available online and merging the county jail with the sheriff’s office.
Somers is a fisheries biologist by training and lives in Monroe. He also served on the council from 1997 until 2001, when he lost the seat to a challenger. Republican Steve Dana, a former Snohomish city councilman, is running against him this year.
