State GOP chairman to speak in Everett
State GOP chairman Kirby Wilbur is scheduled to speak at the Evergreen Republican Women’s Club’s April meeting later this month.
Wilbur is a conservative activist and radio personality who has been involved in politics for 35 years.
The April 19 meeting at Shawn O’Donnell’s Restaurant begins with a 6:30 p.m. social hour. It includes an optional buffet dinner, which costs $15 with advance reservations.

Family policy topic of women’s meeting
The Snohomish County Republican Women’s Club plans to host Joseph Backholm Family Policy Institute of Washington at its regular meeting on Thursday.
Backholm’s speech is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Shawn O’Donnell’s restaurant, 122 128th Street SE, Everett.
Arlington man to run for 39th District
Robert Pilgrim, a detective with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department, has joined an increasingly crowded contest to succeed Rep. Kirk Pearson, R-Monroe.
Pilgrim, an Arlington resident, is the third Republican and fourth candidate seeking the 39th Legislative District seat that Pearson is vacating in order to run for state Senate.
Last week, Republicans Robert Zimmerman and Elizabeth Scott, and Democrat Eleanor Walters declared their candidacies. Zimmerman is mayor of Monroe while Scott and Walters made unsuccessful bids for state office in 2010.
Pilgrim, 46, said he’s been in law enforcement for 15 years, the last five with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Department. He said he works as a financial crimes detective in the county’s north end.
This is his first bid for political office.
“I’ve been a law enforcer not a lawmaker,” he said.
