Imagine if that nasty green film of algae on your garden pond could be turned into fuel for your car.
That idea may not be so far off. Scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are working to re-engineer algae at the molecular level to increase hydrogen production. If they’re successful, it could economically produce enough hydrogen to power millions of light vehicles.
