SEATTLE — The mayor of a Washington city is being investigated for assault during the week he’s up for re-election.
KING-TV reported that Bremerton Police are investigating Port Orchard Mayor Tim Matthes after a critic said he injured her during a Friday meeting.
Matthes agreed to meet with Teresa Osinski, a representative of a group that endorsed his opponent, to discuss his campaign finances. But the mayor refused to share documents when Osinski was joined by former mayor Lary Coppola.
Osinski says Matthes and a campaign staffer wrestled the paperwork out of her hands and injured her arm. She says it is not broken but that doctors told her she could have nerve damage.
Matthes said he apologizes and is not “happy or proud” of his role in the incident.
