MONROE — The Monroe School Board president, who had declined to run for re-election earlier this month, resigned from her job this week.
Jamie Wright said she’s moving outside the district’s boundaries, making her ineligible to keep her job.
The board voted 4-0 Monday to accept her resignation. The school board has 90 days to fill the vacancy, and is planning to appoint the election’s winner at its Dec. 12 meeting, spokeswoman Rosemary O’Neil said.
Currently, candidate Katy Woods is leading Jennifer Van de Wouwer with about 65 percent of the vote.
Wright wrote an email informing Superintendent Ken Hoover and school board member Thomas MacIntyre about her decision to resign from the board.
“Serving my community through my work on the board has been deeply satisfying and it has been great to see firsthand the positive direction in which the district is moving,” Wright wrote.
