MARYSVILLE — Detectives expect to wrap up their investigation soon into a May crash that killed a Stanwood man when a truck pulled in front of his motorcycle on I-5.
Scott Weber, 51, was heading north in the left lane May 19, according to the Washington State Patrol. A construction truck on the left-hand shoulder pulled out in front of his bike. The crash snarled traffic for more than 15 miles.
A medical helicopter landed on the freeway and took Weber to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died later that night.
The Washington State Patrol has nearly completed its investigation into the crash, detective Sgt. Jerry Cooper said last week.
They’ve talked to witnesses and just need to run a few more tests on the road. They’re hoping to finish before mid-December.
“We’re almost there,” Cooper said. “The weather just has to cooperate.”
When the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to prosecutors for review. That is standard protocol for any fatal crash.
The truck that hit Weber was doing maintenance work on the highway for a state Department of Transportation subcontractor, Cooper said.
Weber’s friends told The Herald in May that he was a local biking legend who often traveled with his dog, Rubie, with her paws on the front handlebars. Rubie survived the crash and was given to Weber’s sister.
