Area law enforcement gathers at the Navy Support Complex in Smokey Point at 10 a.m. Saturday for the annual Shop with a Cop program.
Now in its third year, the program pairs officers with children to brighten the children’s holidays and to build relations between children and police officers.
Children are allowed to select $100 of merchandise for themselves or as gifts for family members.
Funding for the program comes from donations by individual officers, community members and with the support of businesses.

Light a light, help youth
The city of Edmonds is providing an opportunity to light a light in memory of a loved one and help young people this holiday season.
A tree is strung with lights at the entrance of the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St. Each light represents a donation to the Edmonds Youth Scholarship Fund, which enables children to participate in Edmonds parks, recreational and cultural programs.
The tree will remain lit until Jan. 3. After the holidays, the tree will be planted at Yost Park.
To light a light, call 425-771-0230, and the city will send a form, or stop by the Frances Anderson Center.
