WHIDBEY ISLAND NAVAL AIR STATION — The Navy says a squadron of Prowlers is returning to the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station after seven months on board the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt supporting the war in Afghanistan.
The four EA-6B Prowlers and 16 aviators arrive Wednesday, followed by airlifts the next day with 180 maintenance and support personnel.
The Shadowhawks in VAQ-141 flew 559 sorties with 220 combat flights in support of forces on the ground.
The was the squadron’s last deployment with Prowlers. The Navy says it will become the second squadron to transition to the new EA-18G Growlers.
