A veteran public defender Thursday was appointed to the Snohomish County Superior Court as a court commissioner.
Susan Gaer is expected to take the new position March 3, said the court’s presiding judge, Larry McKeeman.
Gaer will replace Bruce Weiss, who was appointed to the Superior Court bench in early January.
A commissioner makes decisions in hearing calendars on family law and guardianship issues and juvenile court matters.
She is one of the top lawyers with the Snohomish County Public Defender Association, handling cases as well as supervising other attorneys and handling administrative duties.
She is one of 21 lawyers who originally applied for the job.
“The bench is eager to work with Susan in this capacity. She is an outstanding lawyer with a wealth of knowledge of the law and many years of practice as a top-notch litigator,” McKeeman said.
